어제 저녁부터 반동적으로 탁구와 늦잠과 평행봉으로 닥치는 대로 시간을 허비해보았다. 이러한 日課로써만 젊은 정렬이 정상적으로 그렇지! 이것은 결코 허비가 아니다. 모든 것이 상대적이라는 것을 또 한번 절실히 느낀다. 육체적 기능을 전제하지 않고서는 心的활동이란 기대할 수 없는 것이라는 너무도 명백한 사리를 너는 무시하고 있었다. 휴식의 효과, 스포오츠, 맑은 공기, 5월의 태양, 無人之境의 아름다운 自然이 너를 기다리고 있지 않느냐? 너의 不自然한 學究生活에는 未來를 위한다는 거만한 태도가 있었다. 그러나 현재 없는 미래도 말이 아니고, 또 현재가 현존하고 있다 하더라도 미래란 믿을 수 없는 것. 주위엔 아름다운 동산이 있고, 뿌르장에는 물이 들어 있다. 산보, 수영, 탁구, 곤봉, 아아링, 역기, 평행봉, 냉수욕. ヨオ?シ! Ich Will!!
우리들의 젊은 육체란 어떠한 방법으로든 가혹하게 驅使되기를 원하고 있는 것 같다.
Y교수와 타협하는 게 좋다는 이 소령의 충고. 물론 타협한다. 그러나 수강신청의 취소는 취소할 수 없다. 4년 만에 졸업하든, 5년 만에 졸업하든 종이짝 하나 얻으려고 공과대학에 들어온 것은 아니다. 학문의 전당에서 질문하는 것은 학생의 기본권이고, 답변하는 것은 교수의 의무라면, 나는 잘못한 것이 하나도 없지 않은가?

창신동 누님 댁으로 옮기다. 舍費 7,000환을 절약하기 위해서 전차와 기차에 실려서 통학하게 되었다. 시간 관념이 더 강해진 것만을 다행으로 여기는 수밖에.

5月 15日
“심미적 본능(審美的本能)!” 조물주는 어째서 인간을 이렇게도 불평등하게 만들었는지, 아무리 생각을 해봐야 알 도리가 없다. 정치, 경제, 교육 등의 평등을 실현했다는 공산주의 사회나 보장할 수 있는 외적 평등이 완전히 실현된 이상사회라 할지라도 젊은 사람들이 많이 느끼는 이 크나큰 불평등은 해결되지 아니 할 것 아닌가? 제 자신 불완전하면서도 죄 없는 다른 두 異性을 볼 때, 한쪽으로만 引力의 法則이 作用하는 것은 外的인 것이 그들의 內的인 것과 일치하지 않는 한, 천부당만부당한 일임에도 불구하고, 이 부당한 현상이 어디서나 일어나고 있지 않는가? 외모라는 것은 太古의 조상으로부터 고이고이 이어받은 自然도태의 유물이 아닌가? 유전자 자체를 가공할 수가 있고, 정형외과에서는 직접 외모를 정형할 수가 있고 (또 세포이식으로써도 가감할 수 있다는) 현대이건만, 이 부당한 불평등 때문에 얼마나 많은 불행이 죄 없는 사람을 지금도 괴롭히고 있을 것인가?

박교수 전
먼 길에 무사한 여행을 기뻐합니다. 이곳 서울도 여전합니다. 신익희 선생께서 돌아가셨기 때문에 대통령에는 이 박사의 당선이 무난했지만, 부통령에는 장면씨가 당선되었습니다.
1호관 2층의 선생님 방은 서무과에서 비품과 함께 접수하였고, 선생님의 것은 명륜동에 갖다 두었습니다. 장왕사와 문교부에는 아직 가보지 않았습니다. 열흘 전부터 시내의 자형 집에서 통학하고 있습니다. 기숙사에서 나온 것은 舍費를 책값에 쓰기 위함이었고, 시내에 오게 된 것은 다른 方法으로라도 책값을 더 구처해보려는 생각에서였습니다. 서울에 친누이가 있다는 것을 여태까지 선생님에게 숨긴 것은, 몹쓸 시동생이 하나 있어서 누님의 가정에 내분이 있었으므로 자형의 원조를 받기가 난처했기 때문이었습니다.
책값이 워낙 비싸기 때문에 정화용 선생에게서 받는 9000환으로 차비 등속을 제하고 나면은 한 권도 사기가 힘들게 됩니다. 외국학생에 비해서 여러 가지로 불리한 條件下에 있습니다만 책만 준비된다면 대학과정에서도 할 일이 많은 것 같습니다. 융통성있는 창조적 기술자 되자던 初志를 저버리지 않기 위해서는 대학과정에서 준비해야 할 기초사항이 많이 있으므로, 졸업할 때까지의 시간을 어떻게 이용하는가에 一生이 左右될 것으로 생각됩니다. 여태까지의 저의 아르바이트가 부적당한 것이었다는 것도 생각해보았습니다. 작년 이때 선생님을 처음으로 알게 되던 때의 저의 生活이란 워낙 비참한 것이었기 때문에 기숙사에 들어오게 된 것만도 그때로서는 큰 발전이었던 것입니다. 비실제적이고 동양적인 선생님의 對人關係에 감화된 바 있고, 또 그때로서는 다른 方途도 없었기 때문에, “어려울 때 서로 도우면 되지 않느냐” 하시던 선생님의 말씀에 용기백배하여 2학년 1년간을 꿋꿋이 살아올 수 있었습니다. 힘드는 일과 학교공부의 지장이 많았습니다만 그 동안 얻은 것도 많았습니다. 추억 많은 기숙사 생활을 즐길 수 있었던 것만도 선생님의 은혜였습니다. 3학년 때부터는 책을 갖고서 착실한 공부를 할 수 있으리라던 막연한 저의 기대가 어긋나는 것이 오히려 正常인지는 모르겠습니다만, 여기서 오는 쓰라린 타격에서 지난 일의 반성과 앞일의 대책을 곰곰이 생각해보았습니다. 시간을 많이 요하는 아르바이트는 최저한의 생활이 가능한 한, 되도록이면 피하지 않으면 안 된다는 결론을 얻었습니다. 선생님의 일은 다른 方法으로써 도와드릴 수 있을 것으로 생각됩니다. 저의 시간은 다른 새로운 일에 구속될런지도 모르겠습니다.
2년도 못되므로, 다른 아르바이트를 갖는 것은 저도 원치 않는 바입니다만, 저의 앞날이 예정한 코스를 밟기 위해서는 義理 등속의 惰性에 얽매여 젊은 시간을 헛되이 보낼 수도 없는 것입니다. 선생님은 저의 입장을 이해해주실 것으로 믿습니다. 선생님께서 저를 도와주셔야만 하겠습니다. 내내 편안하시옵기 바라오며.

順序 : 불행, 한국, 人間, 人間的 숙명, 生의 肯定. 투쟁! 적극적 투쟁! 과학적 방법, 동력, 식량, 외국의 예, 국제추세, 콩고-, 슈-단, 인도, 구체적 대책, 일과로서 成敗간의 結論 比較, 우리는 후회하지 않을 것이다. 어쨌든 우리 나라의 앞날이 우리 젊은 世代의 생각과 行動에 달려 있다.

"What about our duty?"

       Utmost in the mind of all of us has been the growing awareness that something should be done to our miserable Korea. Hundreds of thousand of our brethrens are starving, all of our markets are overwhelmed by foreign merchandises, the whole structure of our economy is always trembling with inflation. Our young democracy, half wrecked in storm and thunder, is trying hard its tiny wing. Our poor government does not yet have any firm everlasting policy in the department of industry and education.
      We also know the inefficiency of the U.S. aid, which often means so many soft goods of yankee notions. We do not want any such foreign aid as brings with it merchants of nylon and television. We do want manpower and hard goods! to rehabilitate our devastated fatherland. This again is a grief of minor race. Due to the hateful 6-25 war and also due to the ignorance and unfaithfulness of our government, our social conditions and our sufferings are literally hell on earth. To think a war of as many massive men and materials as that of World War 2 occurred in our Korea, Korea is among the most unfortunate in the world and history.
       In such a dreadful situation, all of us always think that some thing should be done to our future, and that we cannot depend on those government officials salaried so low and so wise to gain money since the days of Japanese rule. But the most alarming is the moral effect of all those on our young generation. We are so stunned that many of our promising young men have long since discarded their brilliant dreams of ideal and future, and become to think only of their own philosophy and hobby, and the so called Bread Box by all means. In Seoul,  everyday a man is setting brake on his super loaded heart, giving up everything mortal.
      Now, such being our social and moral circumstance, of this we should think once more before going to break our heart, and also before the absolute power of instinctive desire, or the Will of Almighty which will not surrender so easily.

     We should remember that we don't exist wholy by ourselves, we are but
historical and social being of an instant. We should also remember hundreds of thousand of our friends gone with wind in the whirlpool of 6-25, tradegy of century. Korea was a living sacrifice of world peace, and also became a test-pieceof world peace.-------------------------------------------------------------------
         In the last election, we expected too much, but we set forth a giant's stride in the fight for democracy. And also some hope in politics we can see in the future.  
If we can not neglect our miserable social conditions, Bread Box and Bayonet Duty, is it all that we can do ?    
        No matter how we are doing, we are student of Seoul National University, the only blessed few of thousands of thousand of our unfortunate young men. We are the only hope !  and the last mainstay of New Korea !  What shall we do ?  What should be done by us ?  What about our duty ?  and our starving brethren ?
       Korea and its future depend upon whatever we do and think.  When we reproach our grand great fathers of not having a Meiji Reform before that of Japanese, we should think of our descendant and their suffering.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  
        Lots of works are in each departments.----------------------------------
The progress of modern science is constantly cutting down the time and energy needed for a young nation to overtake. Already, Mexico, Sudan, Brazil, and many other countries are eagerly trying their way.  
      Dear Friends of Seoul National University !   We are still young !  We can still have another twenty or thirty years of opportunity. There seems to be no choice for us, insofar as we can not defeat the desire for existence. It seems to be the fate of our mankind to think and fight for existence.
      Now that once determined to live, oh ! dear friends ! , we had better fight it out to the last bitch with valor of self-homicide for a better life and tomorrow! Time is being wasted every moment we grumble. We have only to do our best in everything we do for the good of our country. We have nothing to regret in the twilight of our life, for we have done our best and duty, and we were happy in the golden time of our life.
